Credits are prepaid usage packs that companies consume as they use your product. Unlike subscriptions that grant fixed monthly entitlements, credits represent a pool that decrements with each use and can be topped up at any time.
Credit types and bundles
A credit type defines the kind of usage being tracked (e.g., “API calls”, “document scans”). Each type has:
- Name and code — customer-facing label and unique slug
- Unit name — what a single unit is called (e.g., “call”, “scan”)
- Units per pack — how many units are included
A bundle determines the price for a pack. You can define multiple bundles per credit type — for example, “100 calls for $5" and "500 calls for $20”.
How credits work
Credits reach companies through two paths:
- Plan grants — a plan includes a recurring credit grant (e.g., “1,000 API calls per month”) that resets each billing cycle
- Direct purchase — the company buys a standalone credit pack through a payment link or embedded checkout
Consumption
When a company consumes credits, the SDK decrements the balance:
- Plans — attach credit grants to plans
- Entitlements — consuming and tracking credit usage
- Add-ons — one-time purchases vs. prepaid credits
